SUMMARY:ACA On Rope Skills Workshop - Ascending-SLC
DESCRIPTION:This is a FREE workshop\, open to all ACA-Canyoneering Meetup and Facebook members. Participation in this workshop is continually at the discretion of the instructor(s). It is up to each participant to fairly and accurately assess their existing skills to determine whether the material to be learned and practiced is appropriate for their abilities. \nOBJECTIVE: Provide students with the basic personal on rope skills and techniques needed to descend easy canyons as team members with competent leaders and mentors. If you are seeking more complete training\, please consider participating in a course offered by an ACA certified instructor/guide. \nOn rope skills and techniques introduced will include: \n•General Safety• Ascending Using Friction Hitches• Ascending Using Mechanical Devices \nRequired items to bring to class:• Harness• Climbing Helmet• Rappel Device (Totem\, ATS\, Pirana\, CRITR2\, SQWUREL) or similar device preferred. No ATCs or similar tube-type device or Figure 8s.• 3-4 Locking Screw-Gate Carabiners (HMS\, pear-shape preferred)• 2-20 feet Tubular Webbing• 10 feet 6mm or 7mm Cord for Knot Practice• Rope/Rope protection if you can bring it.• 1-Quick link• Purcell Prusik or slings• Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about purchasing equipment \nThings to note: \n• We will be practicing at height! Skills will be practiced with weighted ropes.• We will be outside\, so dress appropriately for anticipated weather (closed toe shoes\, sunglasses\, hat\, sunscreen\, windbreaker/jacket\, and whatever else you may need to stay comfortable for the day). \n• Bring snacks\, water\, etc. Bring a portable chair/cushion to sit on. Come prepared to take notes (pen\, notebook\, camera). \n• No +1 RSVPs. DESCRIPTION:This is a FREE event\, open to all ACA-MeetUp group members. \nThis will be a Aspirant practice session for those attending the Aspirant Assessment. We can get a group consensus on the skills that we would like to practice. Topics can include an item from the ACA Skills checklists such as passing a knot\, rigging and anchors\, rappelling\, self-rescue\, knots or other topics that the group chooses. The Checklists can be found here: https://canyoneering.net/resources/ \nSo bring your rope and lets work on our skills. This is not a practice session for people who have not rappelled before. \nThings to Note: \n• We will be practicing at height!
